How we started
Brew Lane started as an argument about coffee. Aditi Rao and Kabir Shah had spent a year debating whether a Bombay-style filter kaapi or a slow pour-over made the better cup, so in March 2019 they rented a 300 sq ft shop on North Main Road and decided to serve both. The espresso machine arrived four days late. The first customer, a rickshaw driver named Baban who parked outside every morning, walked in before the paint had dried and asked for sugar with his kaapi. He has been back most mornings since.
Six years on, the counter is still the same length, the milk still gets frothed tableside, and half the regulars are on first-name terms with whoever is behind the machine that day.
